"Blessed are those...who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools."
(Psalm 84:4-6)
i am *so* pleased that your investment of labor, and capital, and hope, and patience is coming good--indeed, i gather, even better than you thought you had a right to expect. hope wine, dessert, flowers, vel similia are still being provided to celebrate with!
Thanks, Chris. I'm in NC with my philosopher this week for a conference, so it's a sort of week-long celebration.
I was on the phone with someone yesterday who I believe is a former colleague of yours. A school in New Haven, Connecticut has made an offer of admission!
cool! would this be a former colleague with the initials VH? she'd be really good to do ancient with, especially if your interests extend to ancient and some contemporary metaphysics. another person in New Haven whom i'd recommend warmly & unreservedly, if you have interest in (ahistorical) ethics is Shelly Kagan. we were undergraduates together, and (altho' he's VERY smart) he's not one of those ethicists that comes across as more clever than deep.
